NZ Game Charts (Week Ending 17th Jan)

In what we're aiming to be a new regular news piece for NZGamer, we're going to be bringing you the weekly video game sales charts.

Nintendo have done very well for week ending 17th January, with four casual Wii titles taking the top four spots. It's interesting to note that these are all more casual titles, especially in the case of Wii Play, Wii Fit and Wii Sports.

Other trends worth noticing are that the PS3 titles have edged out their Xbox 360 counterparts with Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. Darksiders and The Sims 3 pad out the rest of the top 10.

Pos.TitlePlatform

1Mario Kart Wii W/ WheelWii
2Wii Fit Plus BundleWii
3Wii Play W/ RemoteWii
4Wii Sports Resort W/Motion PlusWii
5Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2PS3
6Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2Xbox 360
7DarksidersPS3
8Assassin's Creed 2PS3
9The Sims 3PC/MAC
10Assassin's Creed 2Xbox 360

Sales data is sourced from GFK, and excludes EB Games, The Warehouse and online sales.

Which of these games have you played? Do you fit into the trend and picked up one of those Wii titles within the past few weeks?

YUUUS, always wanted weekly sales charts for New Zealand. Great stuff.

Top 4 is no where near great stuff. I think new Zealand has finally got New Zealand. A bit to late as well :(

Could the Wii be finally dominating? The figures say 'Yes', but Mario Kart at number 1#? Wow!

Apologies, it was incorrectly listed in the data. Changing it now!

Interesting to see the PS3 beating out the 360 in all of the multiplatform games.

Anyone know why GfK doesn't count The Warehouse? I can pretty much guess why it doesn't cover EB.

It's nice to see a NZ Sales chart but I can't put to much trust in a list that doesn't include EB & Warehouse. Excuse my ignorance but what is GFK anyway?

EB, afaik, operates as an Australian company in New Zealand. So, by that, their stock isn't purchased locally. (This also explains why they have a few "exclusive to EB Games" deals that, well, aren't.)

The Warehouse, on the other hand...

EB doesn't release their sales stats to anyone regardless of where they're based. It's simply an arrogant choice; "Why should we? We're the best anyway".

The results are somewhat skewered because of this as other stores like Bond and Bond etc are retailers for kids, parents and those who don't keep their finger on the video game industry's pulse. Remember, The Gamesman doesn't exist anymore as a seperate entity.

I'm not sure if GFK uses JB Hi-Fi either, to be honest.
