In news you didn’t know you needed today, turns out that famed director John Carpenter – better known for The Thing, Halloween, and Big Trouble in Little China – is a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan.
“I loved the game. I loved everything about it. I especially loved the music,” Carpenter said in an interview with FACT (via Destructoid). “There was something about the whole sound and feel of the Sonic games and suddenly I’m so much younger and it’s the ‘90s.”
“The underwater level. Oh god,” he continued, when asked about his most difficult time with it. “I’d die every time. And then have to start back. It was so frustrating, but there was something so intensely addicting about that.”
Carpenter even has an appreciation of 2008’s critically panned Sonic Unleashed. “I even like the one where he turns into a werewolf.” Retro throwback Sonic Mania has also caught the director’s attention, saying that it’s “hard to beat,” but that he loves it.
“I just keep wanting to play Sonic games — because they’re fun. I hope they keep making them.”
Carpenter has not shared his thoughts on Sonic Forces.
