Several pieces of scrapped Halo Wars 3 concept art and the ideas behind them have been released by Brad Wright, one of the Senior Concept Artists at Creative Assembly.
With Halo Wars 2, and it's DLC Awakening the Nightmare having only released this year, it's not too surprising that the, as of yet, unannounced Halo Wars 3 would be in the early design stages, however, as Mr. Wright stated in his postings on ArtStation (which have now been removed, replaced with some equally impressive Halo Wars 2 DLC sketches), that he was rather surprised to hear that he was allowed to show the cancelled content off.
In his descriptions, Brad went on to say, "we did some proposals for Halo Wars 3, I had to introduce space battles into the game style, as well as having your capital ship as your home base, to prep your ground forces."
Whether the ideas shown in these pieces of scrapped concept art come to life and give players space combat in the new Halo Wars titles, or whether we even see a Halo Wars 3 are unknown. Only time will tell if any of these designs, evolutions of them, or completely different ideas for another entry in the Halo RTS franchise will manifest in something games can get their hands on, for now, all we can do is look at these, and wonder at what might be.
Halo Wars 2 released in February, where it received a 6.7 from us here at NZGamer.com. The Expansion Pack, Awakening the Nightmare is now available. Halo Wars 3 has not yet been announced.
