Tekken 7 Sells Over 2M on Consoles, Just 3 Months after Launch

Tekken 7 appears to be doing very well for itself, if a Tweet from series director Katsuhiro Harada is anything to go by. The game has sold over 2 million copies across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since its launch in June.

Official numbers on PC are currently unknown, but third-party service Steam Spy puts them at around 300,000.

Tekken 7 hit this milestone much faster than the competition. Street Fighter V – which released last year for PlayStation 4 and PC – has sold roughly 1.7 million copies to date.

As Gamasutra points out, Harada attributes much of the series’ success because it’s “casual players who aren’t trying to be the best in the world.” He also says incorporating elements that aren’t usually in hardcore fighting games – like long CG cutscenes – help attract a broader audience.
