PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – the 100-player battle royale game – has reached another milestone. The game has now sold over 10 million copies, just under six months since its launch on Steam Early Access.
Its creator made the announcement over Twitter:
10 MILLION SOLD! Never did I think we would reach such a number! Thank you all for your continuing support of the @PUBATTLEGROUNDS team <3— PLAYERUNKNOWN (@PLAYERUNKNOWN) September 5, 2017
Two weeks ago, developer Bluehole were reporting they had sold 8 million copies – meaning 2 million extra copies were sold in that short timeframe.
The game briefly eclipsed Dota 2’s popularity on Steam, becoming the most played game. The feat is impressive, given that Dota 2 is free-to-play, whereas PUBG is a traditional paid-for product.
PUBG is also slated to arrive on Xbox One later this year.
