Nintendo ‘Check-In’ Trademark Filed - Report

Nintendo of Japan has filed a trademark for something called “Nintendo Check-In.” The news first broken from a Twitter bot, which automatically posts public Japanese trademark applications.

According to research done by Nintendo Everything (via GameSpot), the trademark falls under category 41. That means it could be used for any of the following:

  • Screening and production or distribution of movies
  • Stage play performances
  • Musical performance
  • Planning and management of game tournaments
  • Providing games online
  • Providing entertainment facilities
  • Rental of toys

The trademark application was filed on June 20.

The logo features a prominent pin, like those seen in Google Maps and other GPS apps.

Maybe Nintendo is running an express check-in service for media activities? Like buy a ticket through the e-shop and just use NFC to check in? :P

I kinda miss the streetpass functionality from the 3ds (though it didn't activate nearly enough in my travels) - wonder if it's something similar?
