Kojima's Team Were Confused When He Explained Death Stranding

Death Stranding may not have been present at E3,  as we we found out last week, but he did attend the E3 Colosseum Q&A event.

As reported by Gamesradar, during an interview conducted by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island, Kojima described the difficulty in explaining Death Stranding to his own team:

"Every time I think of a plan, I explain what I'm thinking for the game system," Kojima said, "the first people I explain this to is my team. For Death Stranding, I started explaining a year ago to the team what I wanted to make. No one got it!"

This was in response to Vogt-Roberts' own difficulty's, as a fellow-creative, when explaining his vision to a production team.

"I was trying to make something new and something different. So for me, I personally think that if people are opposed to you, then you're on the right track. That's game making for me," said Kojima.

"When you're trying to make something new, even if people are opposed to you, it is your team. I need my team to get it. So day in and day out I explain and I convey what I want to make. And while we move forward and make different experiments, little by little by the team starts getting what I want to make."

Kojima's team weren't alone in grasping the high-level concepts, as Mads Mikkelsen has said the plot is 'elaborate':

"He was trying to tell me the full plot of the game, and it's so elaborate that, I mean, I got lost but I really wanted to learn more,” said Mikkelsen. “It's a big honour to be there.”

Not much has been revealed about Death Stranding, but Kojima has said it'll be a "very intuitive, open-world action game."

Nice, it's "very intuitive" but impossible to explain! Sounds like a Kojima game :-)

Looking forward to this. I want to see what happens when Kojima is "unleashed"... may it be every bit as brilliant as MGS3 Snake Eater.

Sounds about right. I'm excited by the prospect that this game could be revolutionary in implementation and make Kojima a legend, or could be a Van Gogh 'ear on the floor' nonsensical descent into madness.

Either way, I think it is going to go through a lot of changes between now and release, and I'm still convinced it is a very long way off.
