Sources close to the project have confirmed to Eurogamer that Nintendo is working on an SNES Mini. This report follows on from news yesterday, which discovered that the Japanese company would be discontinuing manufacture of their highly popular NES Mini.
As Eurogamer’s sources state, the system is already in development, and is slated for a Christmas release. It also appears that Nintendo wanted to capitalise on the popularity of the NES Mini, hence the short turn-around time between its launch, and the SNES Mini’s supposed release window.
For the uninitiated, the NES Mini launched last year. It was a miniaturised version of Nintendo’s first home console from the eighties, sporting HDMI-out and running multiple emulated versions of popular games. This included both first and third party titles. A recurring story is that stores weren’t provided with enough units to meet customer demand.
Nintendo have yet to comment on the report.
