Publisher and developer Atlus announced that Persona 5 – their latest entry in the stylish JRPG series – has shipped over 1.5M copies worldwide. This follows on from the game’s release in western territories last week.
While copies shipped to retailers doesn’t represent units sold over the counter, the figure is an impressive milestone for the once-niche RPG series. It’s also indicative of increased public interest.
Atlus haven’t divulged how many of those shipped units went to European and North American territories. As Polygon reports, Persona 5 shipped 550,000 copies in Japan when it launched there in September 2016.
Persona 4 Golden previously held Atlus’ record for most-shipped game in the series. The 2013 Vita game shipped 700,000 copies globally.
