PS4 Exclusive Spider-Man to Reportedly Release This Year

PS4 Exclusive Spider-Man to Reportedly Release This Year

The PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game from Insomniac will be arriving in 2017, according to Marvel Digital Media’s vice president and executive editor Ryan Penagos.

In a livestream (captured by Reddit user GamingSince95), Penagos inadvertently let the news slip when talking about their upcoming portfolio. “… There’s even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC.”

The game was first announced at E3 2016 during Sony’s press conference. Neither Sony, Marvel, nor Insomniac have officially announced the release date. Details about how it will play are sparse, outside of this official description:

"From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it's Spider-Man unlike any you've played before,"

As GameSpot points out, a new film -- Spider-Man: Homecoming -- is set to hit cinemas in July. The game isn’t tied to the movie.

We’ll keep you updated as official announcements become available.

Excellence!

I don't know how much stock to put in a slip up. As he may know the date, it may be different, and he slipped up and said the original scheduled plan or something.

If it did arrive this year I'll be stoked.

Having played some of the terrible past Spiderman releases, I'm not holding out much hope.

Keen to hear what the bad ones were. The Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 were pretty fun, as was Shattered Dimensions and Web of Shadows.

Except of course this is being made by Insomniac. Were this not the case I would pass this off as pretty much just another Meh effort in this never ending stream of Super-Hero outings, but as Insomniac have such a great history there's a good chance this may be something special!

This year already has too much! I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer for this.

Will believe it when its in my hands. Seemed very far off given the footage we have seen so far. But would love to be wrong!
I remember thinking to myself how awesome Sony had ended their conference with Death Stranding and then they just immediately announced Spiderman straight after

Huge potential with Insomniac behind the wheel, Sunset Overdrive on Marvel steroids hopefully!

My boy and I would love jamming this together (well he can watch holding his spare disconnected DS4 lol), as we watch all the old school Spiderman episodes on YouTube together!

"We’ll keep you updated as official announcements become available".

So does Marvel officially responding to it not count?
