Character Progress Won’t Carry over to Destiny 2

Bungie confirmed over the weekend that your character progress in Destiny will not carry over to Destiny 2. As Eurogamer reports, only race, class, and appearance will find their way over to the loot-driven shooter’s sequel. That means no weapons, armour, or Eververse items – the in-game microtransactions – will make their way over.

From an official blog post:

Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more. This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1.

We believe this is the best path forward. It allows us to introduce the major advancements and improvements that all of us expect from a sequel, ensuring it will be the best game we can create, unencumbered by the past. We’re looking forward to sharing more details with you later this year for how we will honor your legacy in the future.

Destiny will feature one final live event named the “Age of Triumph,” set to debut in March. More information will be made available later this week.

Selfishly I am a little happy about this, as we stopped playing Destiny around the Taken King. Would be annoying to miss out on a bunch of DLC armour and weapons if they were to carry over.

Makes sense so that anyone who decides to jump in at Destiny 2 that didn't play the first one isn't starting off behind day one. Having over leveled characters at the start would also ruin any sense of progression in the campaign as you'd just fly through it with absolutely no difficulty.

Played it full on but I'm looking forward to starting fresh, I like the fact I can bring the aesthetics of my characters but everything else is starting fresh. Looking forward to jumping back in.

Been a long time since I last played Destiny. I'm happy to start again in the second game. Would be cool if there was some form of reward or extra content for those that levelled up and invested significant time and money into the first game though.
