Nintendo is switching up aspects of their online accounts in preparation for the Switch’s launch on March 3. Users can now claim a Nintendo User ID – another handle that will link them to their systems.
As Polygon reports, this is different from the Network ID, which was used on the Wii U and 3DS. Claiming your desired name is easy – simply log in to your account, and select the option under the “User ID” section.
Duplicate IDs aren’t allowed, but you can change it at any time – all you need is another unique string of characters. As is expected, IDs named after Nintendo characters are either unavailable, or have already been claimed by fast fans.
Nintendo Life speculates that this handle will be used in place of your account name when playing online.
