If you were wondering what Valve is working on – apart from not making Half-Life 3 – VR seems to be their prime focus. In an interview with Eurogamer, the company’s founder Gabe Newell told the publication that they’re working on three virtual reality titles.
“When I say we’re building three games, we’re building three full games, not experiments,” he said. “One of the questions you might be asking is ‘Why in the world would you be making hardware?’ What we can do now is we can be designing hardware at the same time that we’re designing software.”
Valve appears to be taking a page out of Nintendo’s book – the company often creates games alongside new hardware.
“This is something that Miyamoto has always had. He’s had the ability to think about what the input device is and design a system while he designs games,” Newell said. “Our sense is that this will actually allow us to build much better entertainment experiences for people.”
Newell didn’t go into further detail about the games, but did note that they’re being built on both Source 2 and Unity engines.
