The Weekend Chat: From NES to Netflix

Castlevania – Konami’s action-platforming franchise, which sees players liberally whipping monsters in their hunt for Dracula – is making its way to television. It was announced today that two seasons for the adaptation are already written, with the first set to launch on Netflix later this year.

While this industry is no stranger to film adaptations, smaller scale television shows are a rarer occurrence. When they do appear it’s usually in the form of cartoons, like 1989’s The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, or 1995’s Street Fighter. So this week, we ask you:

What games could be serialised and turned into television shows?

An easy answer would be episodic games, like Telltale’s The Walking Dead, or Dontnod’s Life is Strange. But what long-form experiences could be broken up into smaller, piecemeal chunks? What genres would work the best?

I know there's already a show that exists in Poland but a big budget Witcher miniseries would be the bees knees

Points for finding a use for the word "piecemeal". I'd love to see a series of the original Resident Evil or the like, you could tell the story of the first game over about 8 episodes... I'd watch it.

It's had movies to go along with the many games, but Tomb Raider could translate to a TV show quite well I reckon.
