Castlevania – the Konami owned property, which sees players liberally whipping monsters in their ultimate quest to destroy Dracula – is heading to Netflix. According to producer Adi Shankar, season one is set to launch this year, with a second season primed for 2018.
Shankar’s other works include Dredd, Machine Gun Preacher, and The Grey. Comic and graphic novel luminary Warren Ellis – whose other works include Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, and Iron Man Extremis – has already penned the first two seasons. Adventure Time’s production company Frederator Networks is also onboard, which as Eurogamer points out, could indicate that it’ll be animated.
"I personally guarantee that it will end the streak and be the western world's first good video game adaptation," Shankar promised on his Facebook page.
The last time we heard anything about a TV deal was last year, when Shankar mentioned a “super violent Castlevania mini-series” that would be “dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it [would] flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”
