It looks like we might be seeing a new Tony Hawk game, this time without input from Activision. In an interview with Jankem Magazine (via Destructoid and GameSpot), the 48-year-old skating legend said that project is in its early stages.
"Not from Activision,” Hawk said, when asked if they would be involved in a new game. “I’m potentially working on something but it’s so early I couldn’t talk about it. I don’t have any contracts signed but it’s exciting. I feel like it’s with the right people so I should know more in the next couple months."
The Tony Hawk franchise started in 1999 with Pro Skater. Developer Neversoft went on to make games in the franchise until 2007, when Robomodo primarily took over. Recent entries in the series received negative critical acclaim, with the 5th entry sitting at a 32 on Metacritic.
Activision originally signed a licensing deal with Tony Hawk, which expired in 2015. A total of 19 games were made carrying the Tony Hawk name.
