Report: Deus Ex Franchise on Hiatus, Developer Shifts Focus

If you’re a fan of the Deus Ex universe, you may not see another entry in the cyber-punk RPG series for a while. According to a new report from Eurogamer, the franchise has been put on hiatus after failing to meet sales expectations.

Sources added that Eidos Montreal has largely shifted their efforts to working on the next entry in the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise. As per the newly announced partnership between Square Enix and Marvel, the team is also said to be working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game – in addition to the Avengers title they’re already collaborating with Crystal Dynamics on.

The latest entry in the Deus Ex universe was Mankind Divided, which launched in August 2016. This follows on from a revitalisation of the franchise in 2011 with Human Revolution. The franchise originally started back in 2000, merging first-person mechanics with RPG gameplay.

We’ll keep you updated as more news becomes available.

Personally preferred the new Tomb Raider games over Deus Ex so no complaints here!

Disappointing but not surprising as the last game didn't do so well.

I wonder how much of that had to do with the Microtransatcions that it included. Pay to level in a single player game! hah.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Cyberpunk 2077 will have to fill that void in the meantime (providing it releases within the next few years).... and in the meantime, I suppose there's the new Shadowrun games.... but it does make me sad that DX is going on another long hiatus.... hopefully it comes back soon - I need an ending to Jensen's story, and for this prequel story to lead nicely into the original DX game.

Sad to know - am working my way through it now and really enjoying it. But I guess sales weren't great as I picked mine up new for $29...

Well make a badly optimized game and the reviews WILL make the sales plummet, a lesson well taught.

Wasn't really my thing. I am excited about the possibility of great superhero games though. Besides the Arkham Franchise, there aren't too many.
