Was talking with a group of friends about the switch. Waiting to be convinced, we all have some worries and preconceived notions.

I kind of lost interest when I heard no mass effect. I'll probably wait and just see what monolith soft is up to.

I definitely know what I want to see and even if I don't I know I'll buy it anyway.
I have a love/disappointed relationship with Nintendo.
Their games are my favourite but I struggle to understand some of their business decisions, because we all know they're capable of something amazing but at the same time they have consistently shown they operate to a different tune. I guess that's what makes Nintendo Nintendo.

Hoping this will give us all the information we need to know to make a informed decision about whether or not it's going to be.......oh wait who am I kidding this will be making it to our household. The only thing that's likely to change that is a ridiculous price tag.

Nintendo has always had a amazing line up of games...although a lot of people complain that most are reboots or reimaginings Nintendos character base actually allows them to get away with it. Lets not forget we aren't too far off 10 + titles in many of today's most popular gaming franchises. CoD, Halo etc.

The only thing that can stuff this up is the hardware and we know they can get that right N64 and Gameboy and the DS were and are amazing. Sadly they also gave us Wii and Wii U which weren't that good long term.

I kind of want to hold the Controllers first, see how the build quality is and whether they get lost in my shovel like hands.

$299 USD so at the current rates that equates to $420.24 NZD, but we all know after whatever rip off taxes etc. that get tacked onto it, it will end up being around the $600 mark here.

Putting the performances and terrible trailers for 1 2 Switch and ARMS aside, I am so, absolutely disappointed in the information that has come out of this presentation.

Almost all of the games shown off don't have release dates, with Zelda being the only real, substantial AAA launch title shown, with no word that I saw on the other non-re-release titles - Super Bomberman R, Has Been Heroes, and Snipperclips; the device is sounding more and more like it's going to be physical only for the AAA titles, especially if it only has 32Gb of internal memory, and that subscription model doesn't sound appealing... the Nintendo networks have never been stellar, and 2nd, a free NES or SNES game to play for that month, with SNES games possibly having online mp (where possible). Also, no word on whether the ability to do all the stuff that you can do from your smartphone (party management, chat, etc) is built into the system? Or can you only do it from your phone?

All that, and no mention of a new Metroid, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Pokemon, etc... not even Professor Layton, a proper Fire Emblem game, Phoenix Wright, Mario Maker?

Before watching it I was ready to drop coin to pre-order... now I can't see myself picking one up at all... or at least for the foreseeable future.

It's possible I missed something, and there's still a lot that's unknown, so things COULD improve (in my eyes), but all-in-all, IMO, the presentation was about a bad as you can get, and in my eyes tanked more than Don's X1 Announcement and his last E3.

Real? I didn't think it was that bad at all, and definitely not worse than Matricks atomic bombing of the XB1 e3 showing, nothing is that bad lol

I respectfully, and emphatically disagree. Doesn't help that I just received an email stating that the Switch will cost $549.

Overall not the best presentation but hey apart from the Pikmin it did meet my requirements

So a lackluster game lineup, $550 NZ price point which seems higher than most people hoped and tiny gimmicky controllers. Sorry doesn't look good. Too expensive for a handheld and to underpowered for a console.

I thought the conference was neither good nor bad, it was more just meh since we already knew most of what they showed was coming besides price and a few games..I'm excited for a new open world Mario game and thought it looked good. I don't think I'll get one day one but I will try just for Zelda alone if finances permit. I will definitely pick up Mario Kart Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Mario plus games like BombermanR and a few indies.
I'm not blown away by the Switch or this presentation but being a massive Nintendo fan and knowing their approach to their recent consoles and marketing, I try not to get to involved or over excited thinking this will be the one, the one that breaks the mold and brings Nintendo back to compete and be ruthless like they once were. Instead I stay relaxed and just happy that I know I will get the games I love and enjoy from Nintendo.
I get the feeling this presentation was aimed more at the Japanese market, I mean handheld consoles dominate Japan and the 3DS has sold more than 22+ million units in Japan alone. All the games shown were very Japanese orientated games and since the Switch will have mobility due to being a hybrid I bet it will sell well there and this was their focus for this presentation.
I'm also predicting Nintendo will bring out the big guns at E3 this year. This was basically an E3 styled show and they would be stupid to show off everything now and have nothing new for E3 itself.
When you think about it, we will already have the console before E3 in our hands so if they have big announcements for games from their biggest franchises whether games in development or windows for release, then this conference makes sense in it being primarily something for the Japanese market.
Japan don't really give a toss about E3 and for the West it's the biggest game show of the year so I wouldn't be concerned just yet with what was shown today.
In saying that though this is Nintendo so fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. The price, and lack of confirmed games is disappointing..

Like I said in a post further up, it should be around $420 going by conversion rates, but as always we get ripped off here with no reason as to why we pay so much more than we should. Yeah I'm gonna pass on it as well after hearing that price.

I pretty much come here exclusively for my game news now as you guys are pretty onto it. Thought the controller plus thing was a clever surprise and its good to see them sticking with motion controls. As I've recently moved to playing all my games on Steam the frame rate and draw distance (to be geeky) were harsh. No title on their a must play for me as I can just play Zelda, Mario Kart and Splatoon on Wii U. No region lock is great as I can now buy overseas duty free.

"Common Nintendo, affordable" not to misquote you but Nintendo are very pricey once you get into their eco system. Rarely do they have sales and its normally like %25 off a $99 game. Buyer beware.

You have to remember that the US price does not include tax. if you ad GST it comes to 480. so I could see it being 500. but EB have priced it at 550.

Nintendo AUS have said that the price is aus$470. again if you add 5% extra for GST tha comes to about nz$500. the worst is converting from JPY as 30000 yen is only about NZ$370

Far far too expensive for what it is here in NZ, the hardcores (like me) will still be getting it day 1, but I can't imagine many others will.

I've always backed Nintendo and had a strong standpoint that Nintendo is for fun and my PC is for hardcore games. While this remains true, I cancelled my preorder after this terrible press conference, A few gimmicky games (which I don't usually mind), a rerelease of Mario Karts, which was out what 2 Nintendo consoles ago, paid online (Nintendo's online ahs never been worthy of money, so i'd like to see how this goes and a price tag that is far too high for what is being offered. Originally the rumoured USD $199 was perfect. I may still pick one up once there is a strong lineup of games or off trademe once it dies in a years time.

I'm hoping that the likes of JBHIFI will offer a decent release price/package.

I know there's more to it than just the exchange rate, there's the shipping costs, costs of advertising in a smaller market, customs duty, GST, exchange rate fluctuations etc. etc. but taking all this into account I believe they still could have priced it cheaper. it's $29,980 Yen or $370 NZD plus GST brings us to $425 so accounting for all the above factors surely they could have managed to keep it under $500NZD but to be honest I don't really think they care about any other market that much.

I believe the switch is a very good concept, however the system will end up more costly than an xbox one or PS4 due to the fact you have to purchase all these extras to use it certain ways. They really should of included everything (except the pro controller). I will be waiting for a good bundle. This could be Nintendo's last console.
