Developer Blizzard released a new Overwatch webcomic today, which portrays a positive lesbian relationship with character Tracer and her partner. That same webcomic however, has been blocked in Russia.
Twitter user YellowAfterlife translated the message, which reads: "In accordance with Russian law we cannot share this comic with our players on territory of Russian Federation."
Russia has strict laws about the portrayal of homosexual relationships, especially what it deems as “gay propaganda.” In 2013 the country’s parliament ruled in favour of a bill, with the intent of “protecting children from information advocating for a denial of traditional family values.”
This isn’t the first time Russia has banned game content which supports LGBTQ rights. MPs called for a ban on FIFA 17, after a free update offered Rainbow uniforms.
