Super Mario Run released today, representing Nintendo’s first major push into the mobile market. The cutesy platformer sees Mario automatically run from left-to-right, with controls being simplified to a single tap of the screen – making the iconic plumber jump.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen classic franchises or characters re-imagined for smaller screens. Square Enix has shifted the likes of Hitman, Deus Ex, and Tomb Raider to phones, distilling the core of those experiences to completely different control schemes. The monster-catching powerhouse Pokemon even accomplished the same with Pokemon Go.
So this week, we ask you:
What games do you think could make the jump to mobile?
What franchises lend themselves to a pick-up-put-down gameplay loop? What would be some of the challenges in bringing them to phones? Any franchises that shouldn’t be touched?
