In stranger news today, Deadpool director Tim Miller – who recently stepped away from a sequel to the comedic action hit due to creative differences with its lead actor – has found a new project to attach himself to; an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
In news from The Hollywood Reporter (via GameSpot), Miller will be serving on the project as executive producer. This will be alongside Jeff Fowler who is set to direct the film for Sony Pictures, and Neal H. Moritz who will produce. Mortiz has produced every Fast and Furious film, in addition to things like 21 Jump Street and Evan Almighty.
No further details about the film have been revealed, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s set to be a live-action/CG hybrid aimed at children and families. The film is scheduled for release in 2018.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. Two new games were teased in July; Sonic Mania – which leans into a more retro-aesthetic – and Project Sonic, a mainline game in the series. Both are set to release in 2017.
