The ability to play games and listen to your own music in the background will be coming to Xbox One this August 2, Microsoft announced. This will come as part of the console’s Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
Top fan requested features for Xbox One, such as Language Region Independence (allowing gamers to choose any supported language, regardless of their location) and support for background music, will come with the Anniversary Update.
No other details about the feature have emerged (like how it will be implemented, or how it will detect your music library). Sony has had the feature enabled for a while, but it’s been through the Spotify app – meaning you need an account, and are limited to that provider’s available tracks.
It’s unclear if Microsoft has entered into a similar partnership with Spotify of another streaming service, or the background music will work via USB devices. We'll keep you updated if more information comes in.
