Ed Boon – creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice – wants to make a horror-movie themed fighting game. The inspiration is the result of the horror-themed characters that have all made appearances in Mortal Kombat as DLC – including Jason, Freddy Krueger, Alien, and Predator.
"Yes, yes! You know, as we've been accumulating them, that idea has been coming up more and more frequently," said Boon in an interview with Game Informer. "You brought it up and a few other people have brought it up like 'why don't you do a horror movie fighting game?' Maybe one day we'll do it."
According to Boon, “loud, insistent” fan feedback is one of the ways the studio decides what extra DLC characters make it in to their game – among the usual legal wrangling and company policies too.
This isn’t the first time this idea has surfaced. A fan-made horror-fighting game already exists, called Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen. The sprite-based fighter has multiple iconic characters (all without official licensing), including Ash from Evil Dead, Ghostface from Scream, and Pinhead from Hellraiser.
