Nintendo sent out a press release last night, which detailed what the gaming population can expect from the company over the next year. In a rather surprising turn, it looks like their next console – the NX – will be coming March 2017.
The release date is without much fanfare, instead being relegated to a by-line in the press release, which simply reads:
Nintendo previously announced that it would release more information about its next system, code-named NX, this year. As the first announcement of any NX information, Nintendo confirmed that NX is scheduled to launch in March 2017. NX will not make an appearance at the upcoming E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles in June and will be unveiled later this year.
Nintendo went on to talk about the upcoming Legend of Zelda. This was originally being developed for the Wii U, but now looks like it will release on both Nintendo’s older console, and the NX. Because of that, the game has been pushed to 2017.
Following up on that, Nintendo also detailed what their presence at this year’s E3 would involve. Again, according to their press release, the Wii U Version of the new Legend of Zelda will be the only playable game Nintendo will have on the show floor. The release goes on to say that Nintendo will reveal more E3 plans in the future.
What do you think of this news? Is the NX being announced with too-little fanfare? Sounds off in the comments below.
