Street Fighter 5 Gets over 4,000 Competitors at EVO 2016

Capcom’s latest fighting game, Street Fighter 5, has just broken EVO records for the highest number of entrants. As of today, more than 4,000 players have signed up to play the game at the popular fighting game tournament in July later this year.

If the tweet (above) from EVO reps is to be believed, those numbers appear to be increasing – and there’s still two months left until registration closes.

Last year, Ultra Street Fighter 4 saw 2,200 entrants competing in the tournament. Because of the increased number of entrants for Street Fighter 5, the qualifying pools will run for two days this time, and not one like last year.

Street Fighter 5 is joined by eight other games at this year’s tournament: Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, Mortal Kombat X, Pokkén Tournament, Killer Instinct, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

EVO 2016 will take place from July 15 to 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with Sunday’s finals being held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, which seats 12,000 people.

They need to add another day haha. 24 hour operating brackets and streams is not a clean, good time.
