SEGA Rally

Published Thursday 15 Nov 2007 9:17pm | PlayStation Portable

8/10

Rally games are the 'in' thing right now so, half-baked cash-ins are expected. Fortunately, Sega Rally Revo is the unexpected: it's actually quite good.

While SEGA Driving Studio handled the PS3, 360 and PC versions of SEGA Rally Revo, the PSP game was developed by Bugbear Entertainment, the folks who've brought us the fun on wheels franchise that we like to call FlatOut. The studio has done a great job at pushing the PlayStation 2 to its limits in the past and have done so again, this time on the PSP.

Revo has a mixture of arcade and simulation gameplay. Actually, in Sega's own words, Revo features "arcade-like accessibility with simulation depth." You'll have the ability to choose between 4WD, 2WD and Classic vehicles that can be raced across a number of different surface types. All of the tracks are based on various exotic locations around the world, so you'll see quite a lot of diversity.

When you're racing, Bugbear's promise of opponents with superb artificial intelligence come to fruition, which is a nice change as racing games are notorious for their shocking AI. To further add to the competition, Bugbear has offered formidable offline and online multiplayer venues for the PSP - so make sure your friends get a copy; there's nothing better than going head-to-head.

Sega Rally Revo is a great racer for a system which is sorely in need of one. If you haven't got a set of wheels for your PSP, you can't go wrong with Revo.
