Skate 2

8/10

First off I would like to say I actually skate and have been for many years, and is gives me delight to see that Black Box can return with what (hands down) is the best skateboarding game ever made.... And make it soooo much better.

Forget Skate, now Skate 2 easily kills its predecessor, or In skateboarding terms, completely owns it :) The game is set 5 years after the first, after being set to jail for skateboarding you are released to find that a new corporation (Mongo Corp) has completely killed skateboarding in San Van, so in this installment it is all about rising (again,) and taking back the city from this vicious skater hater corporation.

The game features a great cast of skaters, Eric Koston, Mike Carrol and my favorite skater Marc Johnson. They are well suited to helping you learn throughout the game, on how to skate (if you re a newb) or to help you improve your skating abilities..

The additions to game feature improved, cleaner looking graphics, much more varied environment to tear up, new sicker, tricks to get your dirty little hands on and the ability to actually get OFF YOUR BOARD! wow thats a breakthrough in medical science, this means you can move objects around and suit them to your liking to get that back nose-blunt you have been wanting :).

The flick-it mechanism, if you aren't familiar with the previous game, is used to do tricks from flicking your thumb sticks in different ways to flick and catch your board, this can be quite hard to get a hold of, but once you get it, it feels so much better than pressing button combinations in games such as the Tony Hawks series.

The realism in the game is not dead on yet, but oh so close... I mean seriously you can nollie as high as you can ollie, who can really do that? plus any trick you flick you will land, which doesn't seem quite right to real skater. The inability to do lip-tricks on ramps also grinds my gears...

The amount of sheer gameplay in this game is amazing, pro challenges, contests, photo shoots etc... And with the addition of online play and achievements you will get your moneys worth :)

In conclusion this game is EASILY the best skateboarding game out on the market and if you are looking for a twist on the normal sporting game then i would highly suggest that you should pick this up, as you will not be disappointed.
