Borderlands

Published Friday 8 Jan 2010 9:35pm | Xbox 360

9/10

From the start I went into this game thinking it wasn’t going to be very good but my friend kept convincing me to play it and to keep going through the patches of bad game play. There were a few downfalls but it was an awesome game once you get into it. The game play starts very slow but the well thought out storyline has opened the game up for future Borderlands products that could expand the world of Pandora. The storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat right throughout the game and as you level up making crucial decisions that could make or break your character. As you play through the game the upgrades seem too powerful and give you too much of an upper hand. I’m not saying it is a bad thing for you get a certain level of excitement by shooting an enemy in the face and seeing its health soar away into the distance. Although I do recommend doing the first few missions at least 4 times with each of the different characters to get a feel of what each character is able to do.

After a couple of hours of intense shooting and levelling up I had managed to start to get used to all aspects of the game although the storyline seemed to be a little bit hazy. This might be a result of playing with someone who had done the quests many times and not been able to read about each quest and find out why each quest was being done. I am still to do the campaign single player to see how the game is different. There are a few things that could prove difficult as there are a few places in which it gets quite difficult with two players thanks to the amount of enemies attacking you.

One of the major upsides to the game is the huge co-op play which is the same as the single player. Here the game really excelled. I actually played through the campaign on two different accounts getting my main Xbox live account up to lvl 50 (the highest level possible) and an account on my friends Xbox up to lvl 27. Borderlands actually spurs you to play on throughout the campaign and is a really good game to play either with a new player or an experienced player whether starting a new campaign or doing play through two which is unlocked after playing through the campaign to the end.

This game is an overall good game and with its purposely cartoon style graphics is a really good choice for anybody wanting a compelling game for either playing through with a mate or playing by yourself.
