Flower
Published Monday 16 Feb 2009 1:38pm | PlayStation 3Flower is a hard sell, for one it's name is Flower, and in an age where games are becoming increasingly obsessed with explosions and body counts it's good to see something with a bit of heart.
The game pretty much pit's you as a gust of wind that saves the planet one flower at a time. You fly through stages collecting petals until you have enough to complete the level. Played from start to finish the game can be very linear, with stages often having one clear path in which to travel. If you were to play this game only with the intent to finish it can be as quick as 2-3 hours.
However people will find their own way to enjoy this game which is truly the beauty of it. You can just sweep around enjoying the views, replay levels just to relive the quality moments, or search for the many secrets this game has to offer.
The presentation of this game is amazing. Graphically the game is stunning, it is something you can not properly describe in words, but watching the hundreds of thousands blades of grass sway back and forth is awe-inspiring not to mention the intricate designs of each stage.
The audio is also very well done, subtle tunes that match the feel of the game perfectly, the ambient soundtrack is very calming, and the music is somewhat interactive with the collection of petals giving off a different sound that creates it's own tunes.
This game is very easy to recommend, but hard to explain why someone should buy it, it's something that has to be experienced. It's the game you'll play when you want a rest from more competitive endeavors, and something you'll go back to often, even months from now.
