Left 4 Dead

9/10

Left 4 Dead is the ultimate PC multiplayer/co-op experience. Wether your just getting out of that stage where zombies no longer frighten you or if your having a mid-life crisis and miss the good old days where a horror movie just meant mindless brain eating.

There are 4 Campaign "movies" each with their own sublevels. From making your way to the hospital for a chopper rescue or being rescued by a fishing rig. Each "movie" takes from half an hour to 45 minutes on easy to up to 2 hours on expert. Each "movie" can be played with up to 4 of your friends(or random people if you lack friends) and make your way to the rescue points.

There has been a breakthrough in technologies called the AI DIRECTOR. The director will, based on your performance, place zombies, specials, weapons, and pipes/molotovs. If you are doing awful there will be more weapon drops and less special infected. If you go to fast the director will spice things up a little bit.

Left 4 Dead also has a versus mode. As many of you know, Valve has made numerous amazing multiplayer games such as counter-strike and Team Fortress 2. The versus mode takes you through a "movie" in which you can start as either a survivor or a special infected. It basically doubles the "movie" play time. The fact that you can play as a hunter, smoker, boomer, tank brings a smile on many a hearty gamers face. Oh, and don't forget that Valve is also famous for releasing many many new maps and modes for their games. So I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some cool DLC comign our way.

L4D has one big weakness. THE STORY. The lack of story in the game is kind of a let down. ALso, I would've liked to see some cool cutscenes but that's just personal opinion.

All in all i think that L4D is a great game and anyone whose willing to fork up 40 bucks for a good time will be pleased at the results.
