Master of Illusion, previously known as Nintendo Magic and known in Japan as Magic Taizen, is a magician simulation video game for the Nintendo DS. In the land of the rising sun it has already been out for over a year, and being such a small and niche title, one must wonder why Nintendo has even bothered to release it on other shores.

The game comes with a full deck of cards so you can practice the card illusions you learn while playing the game in the real world. If you bought a pack of cards and did a search on YouTube, you'd get pretty much the same thing but with more depth.

Master of Illusion puts you in the role of an illusionist who must learn and perfect their tricks in order to become the best magician in the world. The game has three basic modes: Solo Magic, Magic Show and Magic Training. The first one is a compilation of varied mini-games, with the other two being the "meat of the game", or the more substantial part. In both, the objective is to perform tricks and earn points, which grant you more tricks and illusions. In order to create the illusion of the game being a lengthy one, the system has a limit for the points a player can earn in a full day. Yes, this is incredibly cheap. If you want to pull an equally cheap trick on the game you can simply change the date in your DS's system settings.

At the end of the day, Master of Illusion is perhaps one of the most pointless games made for the DS. The idea may sound good on paper, but performing magic tricks is really something which needs to stay in the real world. Stay away from this one, far away.
