Konami’s popular soccer series is coming to Nintendo DS with Pro Evolution Soccer 6. This is one of the most popular soccer games around, and Konami will have to work hard to make it work on the DS’s tiny screens. However, given the use of the touch screen, they might pull off some interesting new features exclusive to the DS version.
For this addition to the series, creator Shingo Takatsuka has been hard at work refining the shooting system. Players will be able to do things such as take more snap shots than in previous games, while volleys and half volleys have been redesigned to look cooler on the small screen. They will also introduce new moves, including the ability to control the ball while sliding in to tackle.
Konami has overhauled the A.I., making the players smarter and referees more balanced in their decisions. They have also added new feints, and backwards dribbling will be possible thanks to some improved dribbling controls. These features may force players to rethink some of their strategies.
New match modes include an International Challenge, where players must lead their team to victory in a variety of tournaments; and Random mode, where - as the name suggests - the console generates a match with random day and match settings, perfect for some quick play games. Master League mode makes a comeback too; season fans will once again be able to play through years of games, as well as dealing with players being injured, aging, and pressure from the board.
