Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2

8/10

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is a sequel (and prequel) to the first Vegas game. This time instead of playing as Logan Keller, you are a new character who goes by the name of Bishop. At the start of the game you create you character who you can full customise, from gender and facial characteristics to uniforms and armour.

The game is set in a variety of locations from France to Costa Rica. There has been a lot more detail put into the environment compared to the previous game. It seamed like the artists had run out of colours apart from pink and red in the last game. Thankfully this time there is quite a spectrum of colour, and the level designers have taken most of the game out of the casinos and hotels.

The game play is pretty much the same as the original, but there have been some slight improvements. There is an addition of a sprint button, and the ability to give new commands to your team mates such prioritising enemies and throwing grenades where you want them to. These tweaks make it easier to get between cover and use better strategies when clearing out rooms.

Another new feature to the game is the “Advanced Combat Enhancement and Specialization” or ACES rewards system. You are given points for completing different tasks which are split into 3 main groups. Marksman, Assault, and Close-Quarter Battle. Once you reach a certain score for a group you are rewarded with an item such as a new weapon or a new camouflage pattern. These XP points can be earned during the campaign and multiplayer modes.

While the campaign is great fun, it’s the Terrorist Hunt mode that will keep you playing for months. This is where you and your team clear a map of all enemy threats. If you are killed you must restart the game from the beginning.

Overall I really enjoyed this game. It’s a must have for fans of the original Vegas game. If you have not played the original but you like first person shooters is does stand out as one of the better FPS titles.
