Cross Edge
Published Saturday 13 Jun 2009 5:52pm | PlayStation 3Cross Edge has received a lot of negative reviews however if you actually read those opinions you will find that many of them have been writen by people who are not huge fans of JRPGs. I personally feel that RPG reviews should only be written by fans of the genre, but that aside, I must say that this game is awesome.
As the game description states, Cross Edge is the result of the collaboration between five major game publishers - Nippon Ichi Software, Capcom, Namco Bandai, Gust, and Idea Factory. Nippon Ichi and Gust in particular have been known to produce some of the most innovative and challenging RPGs to date so it is great to see this coming through in Cross Edge.
The story revolves around two main characters, York and Miko who find themselves in an unfamiliar world. During their journey, they find many allies who assist them in coming to terms with this new environment as well as finding a means to return to their original world.
The game is turn based however you will need to plan your tactics beforehand to be successful. There are plenty of combos and skills that you can use however some many not be as effective as others. The actions you take are governed by AP which can be accrued per turn. Each character then expends AP ā how much depends on the skill ā and this can be combined with other characters to form combos. There are also extra skills which can be used however these require even further conditions to be fulfilled.
Throughout this journey, you as the player will be spoilt with tons of stuff to do, from customising weapons & armour to discovering new costumes and skills. Theres a lot to do and you may very well find yourself totally addicted for hours. The characters are funny and likeable and the skills they use can be both powerful and hilarious.
Iād definitely recommend this game to anyone who is craving a good JRPG. Make your own judgements about this game before reading any critic reviews or concentrate on reading reviews from those who enjoy this genre.
