It was announced today that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been reclassified by the ESRB as an "Adults Only" title. As a result, some retailers have pulled copies of the game off the shelves.
The new rating comes as a result of the "Hot Coffee" mod, which opens up a series of mini-games that depict sexually explicit acts. The game modification has been the source of harsh criticism from politicians including Hilary Rodham Clinton, who wishes to tighten up the Electronic Software Rating Board's rating standards.
The classification will come as a blow to Rockstar but will be seen as a moral victory for the outspoken right wing in the United States. Interestingly, drug-dealing, extreme violence and bad language didn't warrant an Adults Only rating, but having sex in the game did. This is also in a country where Manhunt, a game deemed to violent for New Zealand gamers, only received a Mature rating. Double standards?
