PxlJam, a 48 hour event in which attendees are challenged to make an entire game from scratch, is happening over the weekend of 7-9 September in Wellington.

The contest begins at 5pm on Friday the 7th of September, and concludes with presentations and judging at 5pm on Sunday the 9th. Entry is open to individuals and teams, with just a few rules to level the playing field:

  • All game code and art assets must be created over the weekend, but you can bring pre-prepared frameworks and libraries
  • Considering your game design in advance isn't prohibited, however the organizers encourage you to start from scratch on the day
  • No sleeping at the venue

Last year's contest saw entries on a wide variety of platforms, including smartphones, with the games themselves varying from the familiar to the abstract. Attendees had a mix of experience and expertise, with students and newcomers sitting alongside seasoned professionals.

If you're keen to sign up, there's a simple registration process over on the event's homepage, pxljm.com.
