Persona 4: Arena, the fighting game featuring stars from the Persona series of RPG games, has been delayed outside of Japan and the USA, where it is already available.

Fans of the franchise in the European (PAL) region, including those in New Zealand, will likely have no choice but to wait for the game to be officially released, as Persona 4: Arena is also the first PlayStation 3 game to be region locked, which means imported copies will not work on locally-purchased PS3 systems.

According to the Persona 4 Facebook page, there are currently "a number of issues" surrounding the development and subsequent release of the game in Europe and, as a result, they're not able to set a release date at this time.

They also state that any release dates that are listed anywhere other than on their Facebook page are pure speculation, and that the release date - once it's set - will be posted there first.

Well hopefully it doesn't take too long, seems like a good game from everything I've seen. I'll just have to continue to wait and hope.

Yeah, this was becoming apparent pretty quick from the lack of information.

The constant attacks and insults directed at Zen on their facebook page are disturbing though. It's just a game; way to indite the fighting gaming community.

Looking forward to it though...

That's part of a disturbing trend in online interaction across the board, to be honest. The level of vitriol leveled at developers like Blizzard, etc, is way over the top, and something that disgusts me personally. There's an air of entitlement that seems to have settled over big portions of the online community which sees them react, as a group, like screaming babies.

Or I'm getting old.

Or both.

I don't get it. Firstly, why is it region locked (since i'm in Taiwan and i can't understand jap, i'm reluctant to buy it). secondly, why the delay? they already have it in English so unless it's because there really is a HUGE difference between PAL and NTSC system, there shouldn't be much of a problem... right??

lastly and most importantly, if people really feel that strongly about it, why don't they show it in a manner that TRULY matters, don't buy it and the next Persona game...

No, I totally agree. It's fair enough to be annoyed and perturbed. It sucks when somethings delayed. But people go on and on like you say, like they DESERVE to know the information, and are being duped because they're not being told straight up.

People need to.... check themselves?

They said the region lock was because of the current exchange rate. Specifically, because of dual audio they were worried that people might reverse import the game from America to Japan.

RE: NSTC to PAL, the issue isn't the translation. There are generally a host of technical issues with the system conversion. But, who knows. They obviously have serious reasons for doing this. Despite what some people seem to blab on about, companies don't want to do this, they don't do it to be d*cks - it hurts them financially.

Boycotts generally don't work. Moreover, boycotting the next Persona game because of this would be a bit silly. For one, they've said the region lock will set no precedent. Two, Zen United was the developer, not Atlus, so who knows, it could be their problem they created, not Atlus who will/are developing the next Persona game. And third, I think they've gotten the picture, they know people are pissed, that's the important thing.
