Releasing This Week (Risen 2)

The mid-winter lull continues, but that just means there's more time to appreciate the games that do come out, rather than racing through them or - worse yet - stacking them up to play later.

Previously released on PC, Risen 2 - the only game releasing this week - is a pirate-themed action RPG. It's been getting mixed reviews since its original release in April, with some reviewers praising it for creating a living and breathing world in a refreshing new setting, while others chastise it for making a pirate's life seem repetitive and boring.

If you're interested, but don't have a PC, you can make your own assessment from Friday.

I played Risen 2 on PC, and while the world, characters, and plot are very good, the combat is clunky and really subtracts from the overall experience.
If you liked Risen, you'll probably like Risen 2. However, I suggest renting it first, and if you like it, waiting until it goes on sale in a few months. The DLC is also pretty poor, and in my opinion not worth the price.

I played Risen on 360 and while it was ok i couldnt get into it, the game just seemed really heavy handed. Is 2 any kind of an improvement?

The stand out improvements are in characters, dialog, plot, and they make the pirate theme work really well. World and general game structure is again average. And combat is pretty poor, worse than in #1.

I found it enjoyable enough and don't regret the purchase, but I liked #1 quite a lot and am a bit of a PB fanboy.

the game on the 360 was poorly done. I tried to get into the game but the Terrible graphics, weak story, boring combat and bugs and glitches were a little too much for me. Lets hope risen 2 can amend these
