Yoichi Wada, president and executive director of Square Enix, has poured cold water on rumours of the cancellation of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which sprung up over the weekend.
Responding to the rumour on Twitter, Yoichi stated:
ヴェルサスがキャンセルされたってデマ流してるやつがいるらしい。フフ..たった今ヴェルサス定例会議が終わったとこ。今日プレゼンされた街なんぞ見たら腰抜かすでぇ~w
Which, according to Kagari on NeoGAF, effectively means:
He laughed about the rumor and then went on to say they finished a regular meeting on the game, saw some towns presentation and whatnot.
The literal translation of the tweet can be seen here.
The rumours originated from a story on Kotaku, in which the site claimed "several sources" had confirmed the cancellation of the project. According to the report, Square Enix were going to let the project slip quietly into oblivion, rather than announcing the cancellation, in order that their share price was not adversely affected.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was originally announced in May of 2006, and very little of the game has been seen since.
