Wii U Price to be "Reasonable"

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has gone on the record to state that the upcoming Wii U console will be priced at a "reasonable" level.

"We won't make the same mistake that we did with the 3DS, which was considered relatively high by consumers," said Iwata. The 3DS, which launched in March 2011, ended up being one of the fastest-discounted consoles in history, with a drop of up to one third of the recommended retail price coming into effect in July of that same year.

Details as to what that price will be, however, are still a mystery, as Nintendo are yet to announce the price of the Wii U in any territory.

The news comes from an interview with Iwata-san that appeared in Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun.

Almost certainly. I see the price as likely being $400 US, which would be around $800 for us.

I will be happy if it's around that price, but the thing I can't understand is alot of gamers want a more powerful console then PS3 and Xbox 360, yet expect it to be cheaper then both these machines?
I would say I'm a hardcore gamer, I own all consoles from every generation and I play games ranged from Yoshi's Story to Fallout 3(examples), so gamers like me generally buy consoles day 1 upon a consoles release, I will be buying day 1 no matter the price, but if it's in the bracket of $599-$799 I will be very happy with that.
I was a bit disapointed when I bought my PS3 day 1 and only played Motorstorm for the first few months, I found Resistance a bit the same as every other shooter (I know people liked it, but hey thats me), but I'm actually excited for the Wii u's lineup and will be buying a few games at launch, I can't wait for a release date and official price.

Hardware moves a long way in 6-7 years. You would hope it would be cheaper and more powerful because hardware that costs way less than what the other consoles components costed will have more power by now.
