A new rumour is doing the rounds today, suggesting that Microsoft's new console - currently codenamed Durango - will be called "Xbox 8", rather than the commonly kicked-around "Xbox 720".
The name, while still pure rumour, actually makes sense for a number of reasons:
- The next generation will be the eighth generation
- Windows 8 is about to release
- Windows Phone 8 is planned for later this year
- The next Xbox is widely expected to have a lot of features in common with both versions of Windows
The rumour originates from
thisisXBOX.com, who quote an unnamed insider source. According to the same source, Microsoft were showing a copy of Battlefield 3 running on the new system at the recent CES 2012 event.
The rumour is about as unsubstantiated as they get, however, so consumption with at least one grain of salt is recommended.
