Activision have announced that Prototype 2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems is out today in New Zealand.

The game, a followup to 2009's Prototype, puts players into the shoes of a brand new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller. He's got a fairly big chip on his shoulder and he's keen to take it out on Alex Mercer - the main character from the original game.

Players who purchase the first edition of the title will also get access to in-game functionality called RADNET. With it, gamers can download some 55 pieces of additional downloadable content at no extra charge. You can find out more information about the RADNET content here.

“April 24th has been a long time coming and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of our unbelievably loyal fans,” said Ken Rosman, Studio Head, Radical Entertainment. “All of us here at Radical are extremely proud of what we’ve created with PROTOTYPE 2 and we hope you all get as much enjoyment from playing it as we had making it...I’ll see you on the RADNET leaderboards – Gamertag/PSN username: SuperSangria.”

Look out for our full review of Prototype 2 soon.
