Minecraft LEGO Coming

Minecraft, the indie sensation that has - so far - sold some 4.8 Million units, is taking a moment from its domination of the virtual block-building genre to take on the hobby of real-world block-building. Minecraft, you see, is getting the LEGO treatment.

Pitched as a possible product via LEGO's Cuusoo website, the idea of a Minecraft-themed LEGO set quickly attracted the necessary 10,000 signatures required for LEGO to pay the concept some attention.

The LEGO team liked what they saw, it seemed, announcing that the concept had been approved via the Cuusoo blog:

We're happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft."

Of course, that doesn't mean it's going to be available next time you're at a toy shop. The blog post continued:

"We can't wait to show it to you—but it isn't ready just yet. These things take time, so we appreciate your patience. More details are to come."

If you just can't get enough of the block-building game, or have an insidious plan to addict younger members of the family in a way that even hyper-suspicious parents wouldn't suspect, keep an eye out for it in stores at some point in the future. We'll be watching out for it too and will bring you news of its availability as it comes to hand.
