Yesterday, Eurogamer reported a rumour that Borderlands 2 was not only in development at Gearbox Software, but that an announcement of the game by publisher 2K was imminent.
Randy Pitchford, the head cheese at Duke Nukem Forever developer Gearbox, wasn't exactly complimentary about the way Eurogamer leaked the news, stating:
I have long maintained that we will do more with Borderlands. Shoddy journalism is not an announcement.
Less than a day later, 1up have confirmed the story, stating as fact that the game will be available to view at Gamescom later on this month and then at PAX Prime shortly after that.
The game is due sometime between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013. More details are due to be announced in an exclusive Game Informer article later on this month. All we know for sure is that it's coming, that it will retain the cel-shaded look of the original title, and that it's headed to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Stay tuned for more information as it happens.
