Mortal Kombat, the upcoming reboot to the legendary 1-on-1 fighter, was banned from sale in Australia by the Australian Classification Board.
The refusal to classify the hotly anticipated game, which prevented the title being advertised or sold in the territory, was then appealed by the game's publisher, Warner Bros.
IGN are reporting that the appeal was unsuccessful, citing an announcement by the local arm of Warner Bros.:
"We're obviously extremely disappointed that the refused classification decision has been upheld by the Classification Review Board. We want to thank the thousands of Mortal Kombat fans in Australia and around the world who have voiced their support during the appeal process."
So there it is - unless Warner Bros. release a cut-down version, which they previously stated they would not, the new MK game will never be available (legally) for sale across the Tasman.
If you've got Aussie-based fighting-game mates, do the decent thing and help them import a copy from here (which is completely legal in most states - except in Western Australia and parts of the Northern Territory; be sure to check the rules before you do, NZGamer.com cannot be held accountable for your actions, etc etc).
UPDATE! According to a recent news story, it is NOT legal to import a copy of the game to Australia.
Cheers to Wh1teDeAth88 for the tip!
