Blizzard Bullish On Potential Of New MMO

In a revealing discussion with industry news site Gamasutra, Blizzard's Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams discussed the future of the organization.

In addition to being very confident about the future of their existing franchises (Diablo, WarCraft, StarCraft), Paul's comments suggest that the organisation is similarly confident about their brand new IP - an MMO known only as it's codename, Titan.

"I believe [it's] the most ambitious thing we've ever attempted," Sams said. "And I feel like we have set our company up to succeed on that. We have some of our most talented and most experienced developers on that team. Many of the people that built World of Warcraft are full time on that other team."

Little is known about the game, other than it is an MMO and that it's not either World of WarCraft II or the oft-rumoured Universe of StarCraft. Beyond that, almost anything is possible - Sam's later comments suggest, however, that it might be a little more mainstream than WoW:

"As it relates to that other [MMO], we think that it's going to be very impactful in our industry and, we hope, very impactful to the world," Sams continued. "We think that that will be, after Diablo III, the next big thing from us. The thing that we hope will happen is that it will not stop World of Warcraft but we believe will eclipse it."

Comments that are not only bold but, potentially, full of fresh new innuendo on which to base brand new rumours...
