Activision to close Bizarre?

Rumours are circulating all the usual locations (NeoGaf being the most important one, with Twitter also ablaze with the rumour) that Activision has laid off all 200 staff of Liverpool-based Bizarre Creations, the team behind Project Gotham Racing, Blur, the Club and more.

Shacknews received the following comment from Activision in the wake of the rumours:

"Over the past three years since our purchase of Bizarre Creations, the fundamentals of the racing genre have changed significantly. Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience. Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business."

If true, this is a sad day indeed. Our thoughts and prayers go to everyone at Bizarre although, given their incredible talent, it seems almost certain they'll land on their feet even if this eventuates.

The memory of the (impossible to finish) Killing Game Show will live forever!

If true...I wish Microsoft would be them up again, just for another PGR game and to save a fairly deece studio.

But of course, this probably won't happen...

Blur was a top game, PGR's were fun too. Tis a cut-throat environment nowadays for developers
