Home Entertainment Suppliers (HES - the publishers of the Rugby League series of games) announced today the development of Rugby Challenge for “console” and PC. Developed by Wellington’s Sidhe, Rugby Challenge is coming out right around the time of the World Cup - also known as “Q3 2011”.

Rugby Challenge features the All Blacks, ITM Cup, Investec Super Rugby and other (to be announced) teams and competitions. It also comes bundled with a bunch of neat stuff like Franchise Mode, extensive customization options, dynamic real-time commentary and - super awesomely - online multiplayer!

“HES has a strong history of publishing sports based videogames” said David Robles, Business Development Manager for HES. “The sport of rugby is a great fit for us to build on that foundation, and we are excited by the long term potential for it as part of our growing portfolio”.

“After achieving success with other sports videogames, we are extremely proud to be taking on the national sport of New Zealand” said Mario Wynands, Managing Director of Sidhe, “This is an exciting time for rugby both within New Zealand and internationally, and it is fantastic to be a part of that”.

We were fortunate enough to take a tour of the studio and see some of the title as it was being developed, which you can read about here.

A rugby game on PC? You don't tend to get many sports games on PC.

Wow, I just jizzed with excitment!!!

2 Rugby Union games to be released going head to head. This sounds good with full licenses for our NZ competitions.

Atleast Sidhe has given us more information than what HB Studios has about Rugby 2012.

I can't wait!!!

I guess it's HES releasing the info, not Sidhe. Surprising that they've released so much info this early as HES did a poor job with releasing info for Rugby League Live.

wow sweet news indeed. already some good info confirmed as well like online,multi-year franchise and the competitions. now if they get licensing for some of the northern hemisphere competitions and teams game will be set on that front. have to wait and see how it plays for final judgement of course but so far off to a good start. years without any rugby union games and now next year there will be two with one made in our very own NZ!

I think HB Studios have recently signed a publishing deal for Rugby 2012 so they can't give out too much information just yet.

Holly sh*t. Where did this come from?
Slightly hesitant on getting my thrills due to Rugby League live not being so good.

But by the sounds of it, they seems to be pulling of the goods. Two rugby games in the one year. I wonder if the licences are exclusive becuase we havent heard much from the HB Studio guys.

Rugby League Live isn't one of ours. Our latest Rugby League title is Rugby League 3, released in march :)
