PS3 Black Ops MP is Glitchy, Treyarch Comments

Call of Duty Black Ops has only been out a few days and PlayStation 3 players are already reporting serious multiplayer glitches. A list was compiled on the official Black Ops forums, which are currently down for maintenance. However, the list was picked up by Gamesradar.

- Cannot invite friends to join the game
- "Disconnected due to transmission Error" appears after a match
- Mic icons not displaying in game lobby
- "Locale Search" not functioning
- Players respawning too close to enemies
- "Theater" mode not functioning
- Knifing control doesn't work
- Leaderboard information is wrong
- Framerate issues
- Crashing issues

In addition to the problems listed, the Black Ops multiplayer design director David Vonderhaar has spoken out against players exploiting multiplayer glitches, "Given the opportunity, I'd personally wield the ban hammer for anyone who thinks he is clever by abusing any glitches. Good thing I don't have the opportunity that often and we actually have a constructive, measured, and well-managed live ops team."

Vonderhaar also warns against posting videos of the glitches as they cause 'glitch hysteria', "What many of these people want is to be Internet nerd famous. I'm not going to make them famous and you shouldn't either. Internet hysteria from normal people is exactly what they want and that's how many people reacted today. You gave them exactly what they want."

Uh what? He didn't say anything about fixing the broken servers...

That response seems to have nothing to do with the problems listed above?
It seems to be a response to people getting out of "intended playing area"

^ Welcome to world of bad PR. Where they don't answer the actual question and fill the space with other facts about what YOU are doing wrong.

This article seems a bit mashed up to me, no offence. I don't think the quotes are about the general bugs that people may be experiencing, it's about people who have reportedly hacked the game.
The game is buggy in general by the sounds of things, and I was hoping the response from Treyarch would be them saying they were on to it. But no, it's just them crying because people are making them look bad by hacking their game. I'm sure I remember them saying they had put in extensive measures to stop the same glitch exploits from MW2 happening...
Glad I haven't got the game yet, but will probably get it when this is sorted. Seems most online games have a bad start these days, almost like the ability to patch games makes devs lazy.

These Problems are also present in the 360 versions.
I've also experienced my gun 'jamming' at one point =/

Shouldn't he be like, I don't know, fixing the problems rather than getting all defensive? You made a mistake, man up, admit it and do something about it. End of story.

Out of all the ones listed, first and foremost Mic's is one i have had, my mic doesn't even show up at all, all it does is show a #1 in a circle (Bizarre). Frame-rate issues and crashes isnt one i have had yet but i got a frame-rate drop in campaign last night randomly (as in i played the level before and it occurred unexpectedly the second play through).Locale Search i havent had any problems with. Knifing is a problem for me, but that's lag compounded with a lunge impulse. All in all my time on MP has been fine, except there is one thing i have noticed that i would add to the list, when i am in Theatre mode if i scroll down the page or something that requires an input (PS3) the Game coding pops up in Black in white behind all the imaging for maybe three seconds, kinda buggy and unpredictable, i dont know if this is a design choice (Because of the 'numbers' or if its genuinely buggy).

How is the Wii version? Only one review up on Gamerankings @ 90% so sounds promising.

Installing 360 version now minutes away from playing the hype !!

"Our game is broken and if you post evidence of it online, you are merely an nerd trying to jump start the Internet hate machine, you troll, you."

Some excellent PR there.

What cracks me up is that the game has dedicated servers (on the PC at least) and is more laggy than MW2. HAH!

It's great. The biggest difference between it and Reflex is much improved, XBL-esque online features (notably talking with strangers) that weren't allowed on Nintendo's servers (they're using their own this time).

Basically they neglected the PS3 and just focused on the 360 version. They didn't even put any effort into the graphics/performance of the PS3 version. MW2 wasn't HD, Black Ops is even lower res than that and has a lot of other issues.

Nor did he say anything about the major unfair advantage they all have up there over us occidentals due to the woefully bad latency issues we have to put up with. I guess pleasing the US homecrowd is their no.1 priority. Apart from zombies, mp is dead in the water for me.

For CoD4 (from memory), the market was split something like 10,000,000 on console, 200,000 on PC. It's not a big surprise that the developers (and NZGamer) focus on the people that are playing it ;)
