Team Fortress 2 Mann-Conomy

Valve has now launched an e-store dubbed the Mann Co. Store especially for the game Team Fortress 2. Taking advantage of the recently released Steam Wallet, players of Team Fortress 2 will be able to buy inventory items using their own real world money. Although not all items throughout the Team Fortress 2 history will be included, Valve’s Robin Walker told PC Gamer that “it's roughly the equivalent of 60% of the items we have released in the 120+ prior updates". Some of these items can only be bought. This is still a considerable amount of items to spend your newly increased disposable income from today tax cuts.

The cost of the items will range from 0.49 to $4.99 USD. As well as paying cash for items, the Mann Co. Store will include the ability for players to trade and customise an item’s name and colour scheme. The update will also include a fan-made pack from the Polycount community. This pack will include 17 new items for the game’s 5 classes.

In addition, there will be a duelling mini-game. This will allow a player during a match to personally challenge another individual player on the opposing team. This enemy player will be highlighted as the game keeps track of how many times each is killed. Players will be rewarded accordingly with medals and items for winning duels.

However some hardcore Team Fortress 2 players have been voicing their concerns. Some players believe that it takes away the incentive to work hard at the game to unlock these items. Now with the Mann Co. Store, players with deep pockets can simply just purchase them.

The fact that this story still lacks comments shows how console-centric the audience here is...

Anyway, given that it's Valve doing this shows how much microtransactions are the future of gaming. I kind of loathe it a bit, but that's just how it's going to be.

was talking with people about it yesterday was a huge shock to most seeing valve pushing microtransactions.also some of the items that were created by the community and free are now being charge for with not only the coummity member getting a cut by valve as well. I don't really play tf 2 that often anyway, only reall fire it up when there is a class update or another big content update.

on the plus side of this trading is finally in the game. so people finally have real uses of all the spare and duplicate stuff they have had lying around in their inventorys for months and months
